Cell Processor

Processors have become an integral part of almost every electronic device present in today’s world. The basic requisites of a good processor are its operation speeds, its memory, its addressing modes, efficiency and throughput. With the advent of technology, a novel type of processor was developed jointly by IBM, Sony and Toshiba. The novel processor is called the Cell processor. The memory architecture of a Cell processor which is unique and a lot more compact is patented by IBM. It has a better efficiency per watt and throughput. The programming of a cell processor is complex compared to the normal processors. Though the coding is complex, the cell processor delivers a better performance. Also research is being carried out at IBM to make the programming much easier.
